We Are What We Post
I see so many postings on social media from those I do know
and those I don’t about struggles and overcoming them, they are very inspirational
and I have no problem with people sharing their weaknesses and strengths. To be
honest I gravitate towards those who can admit their weaknesses, it means they
are human. Along with tons of personal brags, I have shared a couple of those,
I also read a lot of public airs of good deeds they do like paying it forward
or helping someone out. I know it’s supposed to inspire good in other people
and sometimes it actually does, however it comes across as a look at me moment.
I was always taught and I still believe that if you do something nice for
someone it lessons in value if you brag about and the other is doing random acts
of kindness and expecting something for it.
If you help someone out and expect more than a simple thank you like in
the back of your mind you think somewhere down the line that person owes you
something or they should be willing to help you out somewhere down the line,
that is bartering.
I have had people
share their good deeds with me not so much to brag but to perhaps inspire me to
stop thinking about my own situation. I believe their point was to get me to
shift my focus, to offset my thinking, it was less about their good deeds or
accomplishments and more about being there for other people. Social media is a
two sided mirror, it can reflect who you are both good and bad
