Lemon Elixir

I thought when you took aside and cut me free the cloth

That I would break into a scattered mess

I already knew what you were planning

I felt your frustration mingled along with mine

There was such a restless stirring the night before

The atmosphere was thick even though I entered lightly

I came prepared about to give it my all

Your words as they fell like cold rain were so freeing

I collected whatever dignity I had left and smiled as I drove away

I took what most would taste sour lemons and made a sweet elixir

I celebrated your grand decision

Now we are both free to find what we are looking for

You, for someone perfect who can jump through hoops of fire

Me, for someone who can see a diamond in the rough
