The Right to and the Right Not To
I see and hear a lot these days about guns and all the
reasons why everyone should be allowed to have one. Every day on Face Book and
Twitter and yeah the news it’s all about guns in between the bites regarding
terrorism. I also get to view opinions and observations from people in other
countries who don’t cling to weapons as their right or their saviors.
The people that are
100% attached to their weapons believe that convincing those that are opposed
to toting around a gun is somehow going to ward off terrorism or make your
safer. If everyone carried a loaded gun around or in their nightstand near the
bed well, then would be thugs and slugs would never consider harming you and
your family…. right? I am irritated yet reminiscent
at those so adamant about trying to force their will, fears and entitlements on
those not so willing to buy into their mindset about guns or anything else for
that matter.
Years back when I
went born again I was on fire for the Lord and in my excitement I tried to get
family and friends first to be saved like I was then get in the same mindset
where I was. In my heart and mind, I really believed they needed to be where I
was. I could see in their eyes and the tone in their voice that that was great
for me but don’t try to sell me all of that. On the outside it looked like I
was trying to induct them into the church and brain wash them. I guess in a way
I was. I liken that piece of my life to what’s going on now in full bloom over
guns. It’s okay to bring something up to peoples’ attention but not cool to try
to force it down their throats.
Those who are for guns
will find all the excuses as to why they carry a piece and why everyone should
and those opposed like myself will find reasons not to. My thing is, is that if
you want to carry a gun to feel safe then do so but trying to pull people into
your mindset through fear or entitlement doesn’t solve the problems at hand it
just stirs more fear, more distrust, more hate and more self-righteousness. Think
of it this way, it’s your right to have a gun and like them but it’s my right
not to.
