Absolution for Being Human
You can’t say anything
that I haven’t heard before
With the exceptions of
I really like you, I think you’re worth it
I care about you
You can’t beat me down
or make me feel worse
About what I said,
what I did, how I think
But I understand why I
suddenly unravel
I wish you could stop
coloring me in a corner
And just listen
You may think that you
don’t owe me anything
No forgiveness, effort
or the time of day
You actually don’t but
one day
You might find
yourself painted in a corner
Where you acted out of
something seemingly silly
Something emotional,
heartfelt
Asking for a second or
third chance
to be forgiven for being human
