Twinkle

When it became final or close to

I burned like a falling star

Though watched from many from a distance

It was my illuminating sweep across the darkness

That turned heads and shocked those gasping

I wondered how many would offer a net

How many would recalculate speed and distance

Then tell me how to fall and how to land

Tell me how wrong I was to crash and burn

I did want to hit some hard surface and explode

But a sudden shift in wind prevented my fall

For days there was silence and darkness

Then I used what was always in my possession

I may not catch attention and glory like the sun and moon

But I shine and I twinkle just the same

I still have some fire left
