Gone Like the Wind

I looked for a sign that you were still connected

I knew deep down you were gone like the wind

But I dared dreamed one last time

I held out hope with such a weak grip

As the hours ticked away I enjoyed my own company

Then I lifted my face my up listening and looking for something, anything

There was nothing but that was my sign, the writing on the wall

I thought for sure I would break down and cry as I swallowed the final acceptance

But on a day honoring love I finally realized there was none on your heart to me

Your lack of response turned sparks to fire that burned away my fond memories of you

There were no tears and none still
