Avalon Beach

I used to come here often

I would walk in the sand

Swim in the water

I spent hours sitting in the sun and shade

Watching life around me unfold

I smoked cigarettes I stole

Snuck a beer or two

Hung out with some neighbors

And met a few strangers

Dreams were discussed there with friends

The latest and greatest in music argued and listened to

Then everyone grew up

Got married or moved away

Nothing felt the same afterwards

I was a stranger in my home town

I no longer reside there

And I am no longer a teenager

Whatever memories were made there

I have taken them with me

Now it’s just a small neighborhood beach
