HUZZAH !

With the upcoming Camelot fair on the horizon here in south Florida and cooler weather cropping up, I can’t help but slip into my Renaissance mode. If I could go back in time that would definitely be the period I would soak myself in. Music, art, theater, comedy, food and drink and all the artisans selling their goods. Between Camelot Days in November and a whole month celebration in February/March with Ren Fest; one can get lost in the feeling of what Europe was experiencing.

When I was in my early teens I was taken to a medieval air in Massachusetts called King Richards Fair. I was bitten. I loved the smell of leather and the vendors selling their goods, the actors all dressed up in that time period, the men clad in leather with swords on their hips and long hair, the women in long dressed. I fell in love with the jousting.  Men dressed in armor on pristine horses fighting to a death. Upon moving to Florida I lost touch with my Ren Fest love, it was way too hot really to enjoy anything out doors and I was still getting to know the lay of the land here.  Maybe 17 years ago I was re-introduced to Ren fest or Florida’s version of King Richards Fair. I went with a guy I was dating at the time and we fought almost throughout the time we were there and it was hot as hell so I didn’t have the best of times but at least I knew the fair was there. As years went on the fair grew in popularity and moved to a larger venue a lot closer to where I live. Being the only one in both family and friends to get into that kind of stuff I went for years no attending being one that doesn’t like to go to such fairs solo. I met up with someone I worked with who was more into those fairs than me and I hooked up with her and started going again. I even started dressing up in what I had in that era.

Camelot Days is a bit of a ride but I have attended a couple times on my own and sucked down a few snakebites, it is more fun going with someone of a bunch of people but I feel comfy enough to go alone too. I like Ren Fest a little bit better because it is larger and has a lot more going on to get lost in and it’s closer. If I feel like getting wasted on snakebites or cider I can always arrange a ride so I won’t be a hazard. I have gone so many times to Ren Fest that certain vendors know me.

I swear sometimes in a past life I have a connection to England and that era. Through fairs like Camelot and Ren Fest I get to relive and let go. The Ren Fest / Medieval music I have posted is just to give you all a taste of what I enjoy. I am not all rock or roll.
