As If
As if a cigarette smoked with fury could alter that
situation
Or that beer or shot of distilled finest could make a twist
turn out better
Perhaps something oooey and gooey sugar laced
Will help an insult or a thoughtless stab
How about some mindless go nowhere chatter with people who
don’t give a damn
Nothing from nothing at the end of the day still adds up to
nothing
As if drug or drink or sugar or porn can ever make something
bad into good
I was that nicotine occasional junkie
I am that sugar chaser seeking comfort when life and love
beats me down
I am the proverbial chatter who keeps believing that there’s
someone out there like me
Only to over and over again find the shallowness of man
There is nothing I can put on or in my body that will wash
away the past and present stains
After the high of whatever I choose to medicate with
Underneath all the excuses when there is no noise or
confusion
I will remain
