As I watched the tribute episode of Glee I was brought to tears not only by the tears and out pouring from the cast but from the progression of how things change and move on. I was never a real die Glee fan but I did watch enough episodes to get familiar with the characters and because it was a glee club set in a high school eventually the top dogs graduate and move on. So do actors and plot lines which change the familiarities that shake us up and mourn for the way things used to be.
Change in any form is the hardest thing to accept. Nobody really likes to have to adjust or accept something we have grown used to seeing, doing or enjoying. Sometimes we even get locked into being convinced that something that no longer serves a purpose or is harmful some way to us is something to cling to and not move on. We are creatures of habit and we always want to stay in that moment where it was safe or fun or comfortable.
I cried yes because of the moving tribute on Glee regarding Corey Montooth but it also saddened me because the main characters grew up and were moving on. The flavor of the show even before his death had changed and now because of his death has taken yet another turn. It doesn't matter what tv program sooner or later it will lose the cute kid that grows up or a main character that decides to do something different. Could be a singer or group that calls it quits or changes their music style but that go to show or entertainer changes and it's felt.
On a personal level it could be a job that changes personnel and the way things are run on weekly basis and the excitement or incentive that was once there is no longer and an 8 hour day seems like a week. You know in your heart of hearts it's time to cut the chord and find something more suitable but yet we stay grinding our teeth thinking it will someday return to that moment in time where it was enjoyable. Could be a relationship we once felt safe and comfortable in and somewhere down the line things changed and we know it's time to let go and things will never be like it was. Change happens. It may not go in the direction we want it to but things change and outside of death change is the one thing we humans have such a struggle with.
