British Butterfly

I got to talk with you for so long
We shared some silly laughter
Chattered about sports and space and
All the things that didn’t matter and everything in between
You managed without trying
To tickle my soul and make me think
You pushed and pulled me
And made me think and tried to get me
To see life through your eyes
I was so busy trying to make you into something
You were not
Someone to fill a void
I didn’t or wasn’t able then to grasp then
What I understand now
You’re my British Butterfly
You choose the time and place where you land
And for how long
When you see and smell conditions
Or a net poised for capture
Your wings flutter then you’re gone
